12 May – Kazbegi (Georgia)

After breakfast most of us decided to go up to the church on the hill, the younger and more fit ones taking the more direct route and three of the not so fit ones taking the longer way, which meant a two hour walk for us, the not so fit ones. The views were spectacular, the only comment to be made was that for some reason we were not allowed to take photos inside the church which has not been the case up to now. Because of the time us slower ones took to get to the church and the expected time to walk down again our guide, Sophie, managed to phone a Lada taxi to drive up and pick us up (Sophie was not supposed to be there so the fit group did not know she was at the church). Honestly, we would have walked down if we had to! Anyway, Anita asked how we managed to get a taxi back and believed me when I told her that there was a flag at the church, that when waved could be seen at the village square so people knew to send a taxi to the church to pick up whoever was there. Some will believe anything! She thumped me!

We had to be down by 1pm to go to a house where people made Georgian 'Khinkali' (dumplings) and try and make some ourselves.
