The festival is a very colourful yearly event with artisans and shop keepers from Uzbekistan and neighbouring countries showing their silks and other items with the spice merchants pounding on the spices as they are sold. The day before the festival begun students paraded through the streets in costume rehearsing for the weekend festivities.
